Overview

A product designer, designs wide range of items which we use in our day-to-day life such as; mobile phones, household appliances, cars etc. He also lays his hands on specialist products like medical, industrial tools, telecommunications, equipment and machinery.

The designer uses his skills and technical knowledge to works on existing products in order to improve the design and usability of an item, or may work in designing entirely new products.

Product designer should have creative ideas and logical approach. Also the ability to express ideas through drawings, 3D models, computer-aided design, plan and organise a project through several stages and work out costings and budgets.

A product designer has to:

• discuss the design with the clients
• make samples or working models, known as prototypes
• test the chosen design
• conduct presentations to potential clients
